KENTUCKY RAPTOR WEBSITES?

Does anyone know if there is a good website with information on the raptors of Kentucky?

Thanks for posting this. This information I'm looking for is:
a) What raptors are found in Kentucky year round?
b) in the summer?
c) in the winter?
d) and their migration periods.

So far I have that their migration period is in the fall. Raptors found year round are bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, Harris’ hawk, red-shouldered hawk, broad-winged hawk, American kestrels, turkey vultures, great horned owls, barn owls, Eastern screech owls, Ferruginous hawks, long eared owls, and barred owls. I'm sure I'm missing some.

Raptors found in the summer are ospreys.

And bald eagles and peregrine falcons are found in Kentucky during the winter... oh and also black vultures.

Thanks for getting back with me. I've enjoyed your pictures!

Might want to check either the old Kentucky Breeding Bird Atlas or the Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Kentucky. Both are written by Brainard Palmer-Ball. Great stuff. the checklise gives county info and some specifics. Certainly gives you the ranges and periods for migration.

The all knowning Dr. Smith will surly have some good info.

Thanks! Most of the info I have so far is from the Kentucky Breeding Bird Atlas. I'll see if I can put my hands on the other.

Appreciate your help!

Check the range of Harris' hawk and ferruginous hawk. Not sure how those ended up on a Kentucky raptor list... And yes the annotated checklist would be the best resource for you. In the past few years, Mississippi kites have extended their breeding range northward into KY and points north. -RAS
